Emily Shares Why She Loves Working In Aged Care

Meet Emily Wang, an incredibly generous and selfless Personal Care Worker who is proud to share why she loves working in aged care. A Personal Care Worker supports our residents physical, spiritual, social and cultural needs and which enables them to maintain their own wellbeing and independence for as long as possible.

For Emily, a resident’s smile is the best evidence of a job well done. “It means they recognise our work; that they feel safe and happy living here,” explains Emily.

“I like to see the smile on their face, it is so bright and beautiful. While I’m working, I always chat with them. I’ll always ask how are you doing today? And I take the time to listen to how they are feeling and the little stories they share with me. When the residents are happy, I feel happy too.”

Caring for the elderly comes naturally to Emily. During her childhood, Emily’s parents both worked fulltime so her grandparents cared for her.

“I like the elderly because they are amiable and approachable. I think the elderly are more worthy of being cared for. They contributed to society when they were younger so they should be more respected and well cared for. Every elderly person is entitled to receive safe, high-quality care in a nursing home. This is my purpose and why I love working in the aged care sector,” says Emily.

“I think Heritage Care creates a very safe and inclusive work environment for staff. I love all my colleagues at Chomley House…they are amazing and I am so proud of them. Our management team genuinely cares about us and regularly checks in on our mental health and career goals. For example, I am now studying to become a nurse and have felt supported every step of the way. We are like a big family at Chomley House.”

What makes a great personal care worker? Emily says its simple: “If you are the type of person who loves being helpful and putting a smile on the face of the elderly, then please come and join us. Let’s provide great care for the elderly.”

Thank you for caring Emily. We are grateful to have you on our team.
