Eveline Singh is the Northcote Services Manager at our newest home Heritage Northcote. Heritage Care employs Service Managers to be our dedicated resident and family liaison as well as supervise essential service providers. They manage teams of people and are responsible for setting and maintaining resident and family satisfaction standards. The benefits of having this role in an aged care home is to enable the clinical care team to focus on Standard 3. of the The Aged Care Quality Standards in the delivery of safe and effective personal and clinical care, in accordance with the consumer’s needs, goals and preferences to optimise health and well-being.
Eveline has worked in the aged care sector for 17 years, initially as an accountant. Her passion is interacting with people which, along with her organisation and eye for detail, made her a natural fit for the Services Manager role at Heritage Northcote.
“My position as Service Manager entails all the non-clinical services like catering, cleaning, laundry as well as client services like, admissions, discharges and settling residents in.”
Each day is a little different, but typically starts with Eveline touring the home to check in with each of the residents to see how they slept, how they’re feeling and if there’s anything she can do to support them.
Next, it’s tackling her list of admissions, registrations and checking that each of the services are running smoothly. One of the most critical aspects of her role is ensuring that meal times run on time and that the food is delicious.
“When a resident first comes here one of the things, they look forward to most is the food, so I have to make sure that it is at the high standard that they would enjoy.”
“It’s about variety, spice and flavour as well as the portions being right so nothing is wasted, waste is a big concern for our residents.”
Eveline adores her family and loves spending her weekends with her husband and two adult children. To unwind she enjoys reading autobiographies that tell stories of how people succeed through adversity. Hearing positive stories is also something she gets at work.
“I chose to work in aged care because it gives me a lot of satisfaction. We spend a large part of our lives at work at the end of the day, I feel quite positive about myself. I feel a sense of purpose. I feel I have added value to their lives feeling engaged and also the residents inspire me and put a smile on my face.”
